Making Surah Memorisation Fun: Read and Re-Arrange Surah Al-Falaq

Memorising a Surah does not always have to be about repeated reading. Young learners can also strengthen their memorisation through hands-on activities that encourage them to recognise, recall and sequence the verses.

Our Read and Re-Arrange Surah Al-Falaq activity gives children an opportunity to practise the Surah in a fun and interactive way. The worksheet presents the five verses of Surah Al-Falaq in a mixed-up order, and children are challenged to read each verse before arranging them in the correct sequence.

How It Works

Children can:

  1. Read each verse carefully.

  2. Identify the verses they recognise from their memorisation.

  3. Recall the correct sequence of Surah Al-Falaq.

  4. Re-arrange the verses from the first verse to the last.

  5. Read the complete Surah again once the sequence is correct.

This simple activity works on more than memorisation. It also encourages reading fluency, visual recognition, sequencing skills and confidence in recalling the Surah independently.

The worksheet includes all five verses, including Qul a‘ūdhu bi rabbil-falaq and the subsequent verses, presented as separate sections for children to rearrange.

Making Memorisation More Meaningful

For young children, breaking memorisation into smaller, manageable activities can make the process feel less repetitive. Instead of simply asking them to repeat the Surah, we can turn revision into a little challenge:

“Can you remember which verse comes first?”

“What comes after this verse?”

“Can you arrange all five verses correctly?”

These little prompts encourage children to actively retrieve what they have memorised, rather than simply following along.
