Learning to read becomes more meaningful when children are given simple, engaging, and age-appropriate activities that allow them to practise step by step. “Jom Baca!” is a specially designed Malay reading worksheet for preschoolers and young learners to help them strengthen their suku kata recognition, word blending, and reading fluency in a fun and encouraging way.
In this worksheet, children will:
🎨 Follow the colour-coded suku kata to recognise and blend syllables more easily.
👀 Read simple suku kata such as ba, bu, bi, bo and practise identifying familiar sound patterns.
📖 Read short and simple sentences using familiar words and vocabulary.
🗣️ Practise reading slowly before reading fluently to build confidence and accuracy.
⭐️ Develop independence in reading through the encouragement, “Saya boleh baca sendiri!”
The worksheet gradually introduces different sound patterns and vocabulary through simple sentences, including words related to buku, Baba, Fifi, feri, foto, Didi, Jaja, jeti, Kiki, and kotak.
As children begin their early reading journey, developing strong phonics and syllable awareness is an important foundation. However, young learners often need repeated practice in a format that feels enjoyable rather than overwhelming.
Through “Jom Baca!”, we hope to provide parents and teachers with a simple, practical resource that can be used for classroom practice, home revision, or one-to-one reading support.
